From Student to Teacher: My Yoga Journey and Philosophy of Balance
Yoga is not just something I recently started. It’s been a deep and integral part of my life for a long time, evolving from a simple practice into a lifelong passion. It all began back in 2015, after a bicycle accident in Santiago, Chile, left me needing to regain my strength, flexibility, and overall health.
The Start of My Yoga Journey
After the accident, I found myself searching for ways to heal without overburdening my body. That’s when I turned to yoga. I started attending classes at a local studio, and little by little, the practice became a crucial part of my recovery. Yoga offered me a way to rebuild my body that didn’t feel was too strenuous or cumbersome, and more importantly, it allowed me to reconnect with my body in a mindful way. The gentle stretches, the calming breathwork, and the focus on alignment helped me recover both physically and mentally.
As I continued to practice, I noticed not only improvements in my strength and flexibility but also a deeper sense of inner peace and clarity. Yoga wasn’t just helping my body heal—it was helping me find a new sense of balance in my life.
From Student to Teacher
It was during this time of personal growth that I was encouraged to become a teacher. My professor, noticing my frequent attendance and growing skills, suggested I take my practice to the next level. At first, I didn’t think of myself as a teacher—I was simply a student, focused on my own journey. But as my practice deepened, I realized there was so much more to learn and share with others.
I began my formal training with a focus on Hatha Yoga, but that was just the beginning. I enrolled in courses that broadened my understanding of yoga, such as the History and Philosophy of Yoga, Anatomy and Yoga Applications, and various techniques that helped me refine my approach. I even learned how to teach yoga to different age groups, from infants to adults, allowing me to share the benefits of yoga with a wider audience.
By 2018, I was teaching yoga professionally, and my passion for the practice has only grown stronger over the years. Each class, each student, and each new experience continues to deepen my love for yoga and the positive impact it has on people’s lives.
My Philosophy: Balance in Mind and Body
The philosophy that guides both my yoga practice and my life is centered around balance. Yoga, to me, is not just about physical postures—it’s about finding equilibrium between the body and mind. This balance extends beyond the mat and into every aspect of life.
Whether we’re balancing work and personal life, managing stress, or navigating relationships, balance is key. The practice of yoga helps us tune into our bodies, quiet our minds, and restore harmony within ourselves. In my teaching, I emphasize the importance of this balance. Yoga is a tool to help people reconnect with their bodies, develop mental clarity, and cultivate a sense of peace.
Helping Others Regain Balance
One of the most rewarding aspects of being a yoga teacher is seeing the transformative impact it has on others. Yoga offers a safe space for people to release tension, heal from physical injury, and find mental clarity. I’ve had the privilege of guiding students from all walks of life—from infants learning their first stretches to adults seeking relief from stress and physical discomfort. No matter the age or skill level, yoga provides a way for everyone to regain balance and harmony in their lives.
For me, the ultimate goal of teaching yoga is simple: to help others find that balance, whether it’s through physical strength, emotional stability, or mental clarity. It’s about meeting people where they are and offering a practice that is accessible and transformative.
Conclusion
Yoga is a journey that has shaped my life in countless ways. From my initial recovery after an accident to becoming a teacher and guide for others, the practice has been a constant source of healing, growth, and balance.
In my classes, I strive to share not just the physical aspects of yoga but the deeper philosophy that has been so impactful in my own life. Yoga is a path to balance—balance in the body, the mind, and in life as a whole. As I continue to practice and teach, my goal remains the same: to help others find that same sense of harmony and peace through the power of yoga.
